Graduated with an MBBS from the National University of Singapore in 1995 and obtained his postgraduate Master of Medicine (Anaesthesia) from NUS Graduate School of Medical Studies (Singapore) in 2001. He completed his clinical fellowship in Neuroanaesthesia at Toronto Western Hospital, Canada in 2005. Most recently, he completed the Advanced Management Programme at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 2024.
He has a special interest in neuroanaesthesia and is one of the key neuroanaesthetists in the department. Appointed as Visiting Professor to the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health and Nursing at Universitas Gadjah Mada, he also holds an appointment as external faculty for Program Pendidikan Konsultan Neuroanesthesia at Universitas Padjajaran, Indonesia. He regularly participates as a faculty speaker at various neuroanaesthesia conferences, including those of the Asian Society of Neuroanesthesia and Neurocritical Care. Having authored several peer-reviewed publications, he also serves as a regular ad-hoc reviewer for local and international journals.
Actively engaged in both postgraduate and undergraduate education, he currently serves as a member of the Singapore Master of Medicine Examinations Committee and the Residency Advisory Committee. Previously invited as an external examiner for Intermediate Fellowship Examinations at the Hong Kong College of Anaesthesiologists, his teaching extends beyond residency programmes. As subject lead for Anaesthesia in the LKC Year 3 Anaesthesia Short Posting, he remains involved in clinical teaching and assessment of undergraduates at the LKC School of Medicine.
Outside work, he finds joy in travelling as it offers opportunities to gain fresh perspectives and diverse experiences. The different cultures, unfamiliar cuisines, breathtaking landscapes and the thrill of discovering hidden gems creates lasting memories that extend far beyond each journey. Travel challenges him to step outside his comfort zone, fostering personal growth and adaptability that enriches whilst reminding us of the world’s incredible diversity and our shared humanity.
