Michael G. Irwin, MB ChB, MD, FRCA, FCAI, FANZCA, FHKAM, is the Daniel C.K. Yu Professor in the Department of Anaesthesiology, The University of Hong Kong. He served as Head of Department from 2000 to 2020 and is Past President of the Society of Anaesthetists of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong College of Anaesthesiology. Prof. Irwin has published around 400 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals (h-index 60) and is included in Stanford University’s Top 2% Scientists List. He is an editor of Perioperative Medicine and Expert Opinion on Pharmacotherapy, an associate editor of the BJA, and a senior editor of the Hong Kong Medical Journal. He was an editor of Anaesthesia for 12 years. He is on the Faculty of Evidence Based Perioperative Medicine (EBPOM) and was Chair of the World Congress of Anaesthesia 2016. He has written several chapters and textbooks (e.g., Taking on TIVA, Cambridge University Press), as well as educational reviews. His research interests include intravenous anaesthesia, pharmacology, perioperative medicine/enhanced recovery, and the effects of anaesthesia on cancer.
