Dr. Maizatulhikma Md. Miskan is a Neuroanaesthetist currently serving at the Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care, Hospital Sultanah Aminah, Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
Dr. Maizatulhikma graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Malaya in 2007 before completing her Master of Anaesthesiology in 2016. She has further enhanced her expertise through advanced subspecialty training, including a Fellowship in Neuro and Trauma Anaesthesia under the Ministry of Health Malaysia and a Fellowship in Neuroanaesthesia at St George’s University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, London. She completed Postgraduate Diploma in Organ Donation Innovative Strategies for Southeast Asia (ODISSeA), a programme jointly led by the University of Barcelona and supported by the European Union. She also recently completed her Post Graduate University Diploma in Regional Anaesthesia & Analgesia, by Montpellier University and Vinmec Healthcare System.
With nearly two decades of clinical experience, Dr. Maizatulhikma has worked across major tertiary referral centres and district hospitals throughout Malaysia. Her clinical expertise encompasses the full spectrum of neuroanaesthesia, including neurotrauma, neurovascular surgery, neuro-intervention, neuro-oncology, spine surgery, epilepsy surgery, deep brain stimulation, paediatric neurosurgery, and acute stroke thrombectomy services. She is also actively involved in multidisciplinary teaching.
Dr. Maizatulhikma is an active member of numerous national and international professional societies, including the Malaysian Society of Anaesthesiologists (MSA), Malaysian Society of Neuroanaesthesia and Neurocritical Care (MSNACC), the Asian Society for Neuroanesthesia and Critical Care (ASNACC), the Society for Neuroscience in Anesthesiology and Critical Care (SNACC), and the Neurocritical Care Society (NCS).
Her commitment to academic excellence is reflected in multiple peer-reviewed publications, award-winning research and international presentations. Notably, she received the Young Investigator Award for Best Oral Presentation at the MSA Annual Scientific Congress in 2016.
Beyond clinical practice, Dr. Maizatulhikma is a passionate educator, course director, examiner and invited speaker at numerous local and international conferences. She continues to contribute significantly to advancing neuroanaesthesia education, research, and patient care both within Malaysia and internationally.
