Dr. Shailendra Joshi is the Associate Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center in New York. Dr. Joshi completed his anesthesia residency at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi. He completed his fellowship training with the Faculty of Anesthetists of the Royal College of Surgeons at Southampton General Hospital and City General Hospital, Stoke-on-Trent, England. Later, Dr. Joshi was a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. He did his Post-Doctoral Neuro-anesthesia Fellowship under Professor William Lawrence Young at Columbia University and has since worked at the university’s medical center.

Dr. Joshi has contributed to several anesthesia textbooks. He has authored over fifty scientific papers and presented over 200 abstracts. He has been on the editorial board of the Journal of Neurosurgical Anesthesiology for many years. Dr. Joshi’s research focuses on the intra-arterial delivery of drugs. Supported by the National Cancer Institute, the project developed the first drug formulations optimized for the intra-arterial treatment of brain cancers, along with novel delivery methods and related devices. His laboratory also pioneered optical pharmacokinetic techniques for tracking intra-arterial drug delivery. The university has patented the carrier drug conjugates he developed. Besides, he holds several other US patents for medical and non-medical devices. He has authored two books. In 2023, he published Neuroanesthesiology Case Companion, and in 2025, Arterial Treatment of Neurological Diseases: The Current Status and Future Directions.
