Dr. Barreto Chang is an anesthesiologist and neuroscientist in the Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care at the University of California, San Francisco. She completed her MD/PhD training at Stanford University and her anesthesia residency at the University of California, San Francisco. She serves as the chair of the American Society of Anesthesiologists Perioperative Brain Health Initiative. Her research focuses on perioperative neuroscience and cognitive outcomes in older adults undergoing surgery. As a physician-scientist, she aims to identify patients at risk for Perioperative Neurocognitive Disorders and to develop clinical care pathways to protect vulnerable patients during surgery. Dr. Barreto Chang is an internationally recognized educator and speaker and chairs the American Society of Anesthesiologists Committee on Professional Diversity. She is committed to mentorship, promoting diversity, and improving patient care by translating research into better perioperative outcomes for older adults.
