Dr. Koerner is a neurointensivist and anesthesiologist. She is professor of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine and of Neurological Surgery at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon, and serves as Vice Chair of Critical Care for the Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine. Dr. Koerner oversees the continuum of postoperative care for the neurologically injured as Medical Director of both the Neurosciences Intensive Care and Neurosciences Intermediate Care Units. Dr. Koerner’s translational research on the immune system’s role in brain injury and recovery was funded by the National Institutes of Health and the American Heart Association. Dr. Koerner is a passionate teacher and takes pride in mentoring junior colleagues. She has served in leadership positions for multiple professional societies, including as chair of the Scientific Advisory Board for the Association of University Anesthesiologists (AUA) and workshop chair for the Neurocritical Care Society (NCS). Dr. Koerner is a longstanding member of the Society for Neuroscience in Anesthesiology and Critical Care (SNACC) and served as SNACC president 2024-2025.
