Professor Haekyu Kim Best Abstract Awards

Haekyu Kim, MD, PhD is Emeritus Professor in the Department of Anesthesia and Pain Medicine at the School of Medicine, Pusan National University, Busan, Korea. With a distinguished career spanning several decades, Professor Kim has made significant contributions to anaesthesia/ neuroanaesthesia, pain medicine, and academic leadership both in Korea and internationally.

He began his international research career as a researcher at the Brain Research Center, Yamaguchi University Medical School, Japan, in 1989, and later served as a researcher in anaesthesiology at the University of California, San Diego, USA (1993–1994). Since 1999, he has served as Professor in the Department of Anesthesia and Pain Medicine at Pusan National University, where he played a key role in advancing clinical practice, research, and education in anesthesiology.

Professor Kim has also held numerous leadership positions in professional societies. He was the Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the First Korea–Japan–China Joint Symposium for Neuroanesthesia (2003–2004) and as the President of the Korean Society of Neuroanesthesia (2003–2004). His regional leadership continued as the President of the Asian Society for Neuroanesthesia and Critical Care (2008–2010), followed by his role as the Chairman of the Korean Society of Anesthesiologists (2010–2011).

Professor Kim was the President of the Hyowon Biomedical Research Institute from 2015 to 2022. Since 2023, he has been the Emeritus Professor at Pusan National University and currently serves as the Director of Centum IPM Clinic in Busan, Korea, continuing his contributions to clinical care and academia.

To honour the excellence in research and innovative work presented at the conferences, Professor Kim generously donated USD 2,000 to each of five ASNACC biennial meetings, beginning with the 8th Congress of ASNACC 2025 in Bangkok through to the 12th Congress of ASNACC 2035, amounting to a total contribution of USD 10,000.
